Job Opportunity: BI Developer


Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK's leading mental health and learning disability service providers, is hiring a BI Developer to join its Digital Team. The role comes shortly after the Trust completed a major modernisation of its digital infrastructure, and offers the chance to help shape how data drives decisions across clinical and non-clinical systems using tools like Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, and SQL Server.

About the Role

This is a senior, hands-on BI position rather than an entry-level data role. The successful candidate will take a leading role in designing and maintaining enterprise information architecture across the Trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of scalable, future-proof BI architecture and data models

  • Oversee ETL processes, schema design, and real-time reporting

  • Supervise and mentor junior BI Developers

  • Work with stakeholders across the Trust to deliver reporting for clinical outcomes and national NHS datasets

  • Ensure compliance with data governance and national NHS standards

  • Champion Agile, DevOps, and cloud-based methodologies

What You'll Need

Essential:

  • Supervisory or line management experience within a technical or data team

  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft BI tools (Power BI, Fabric, Azure, SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS)

  • Experience in data warehouse design and delivery across the full project lifecycle

  • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in IM&T or a related field

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification (MA/MSc)

  • Previous NHS experience and familiarity with NHS data standards

  • Exposure to AI/ML applications and cloud database technologies
